Keep in mind this is my opinion. And you know my thoughts on “opinions” :lol” most suck and mine might too!
CNN is one of the first websites I open in the mornings after checking e-mails and my workload for the day. I feel more informed when I can hit up a trusted news site and get the latest on recalls, important news and information on the nation’s economy. But the first thing that greeted me this morning was more race and gender related stuff about Sotomayor – good grief, people!
People who say race and gender aren’t key issues in whether someone is fit for a job don’t start out an article with
The Republican Party risks further alienation from Hispanics by challenging the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor, who would become the first Hispanic, and third woman, on the Supreme Court.
Seriously.. it’s here. Of course it looks informational but why should party names, race and gender even come into play here? Does EVERY Republican have an issue with a female Hispanic Justice? I doubt it. That’s like saying EVERY white person has an issue with having a black President. I don’t. My family doesn’t.
Separating our nation, the United States of America, into “parties” that continually disagree with each other and disapprove of everything little thing the other does is killing our unity. The government is supposed to be in place to protect the rights of every citizen of the United States, including those deployed or otherwise occupying a residence outside the USA.
What good does it do to bicker over petty issues? That does about as much good as letting my kids argue over who threw the toys out and who needs to pick them up. Which they were NEVER allowed to do btw! Not even as small children! They were 6 years and 3 years when I explained to them that bickering gets them nowhere but teamwork always gets the job done. They’re now 15 and 12 and share in household duties. They keep track of who is in charge of kitchen duty; I’ve probably loaded the dishwasher 3x in the last year. They pick up the laundry from their bathroom; I rarely have to remind them. They help do their own laundry; at 12 my son’s still learning but he’s willing to do it. When they talk about issues that would normally cause an argument they each explain their point of view and even when they disagree, they implement the “agree to disagree” idea.
Sorry, got a bit off topic. Back to my opinion.. stop rolling your eyes, you know you love it!
The real issues should revolve around the job itself. Mitt Romney said, “What the American public deserves is a judge who will put the law above her own personal political philosophy.” Now there’s a statement I hope every American can agree with.
How many times has President Obama laughed and joked about important issues? Does that mean he doesn’t take the job seriously? Is he not allowed to have a sense of humor? Things have been blown out of proportion several times already. Sotomayor has said things recently that really do make me wonder about her ability to do her job and serve as SCJ. What we need to do is look at her record. Obviously she’s not a new Judge; look into past rulings. Based primarily on the job this person does, are they worthy of the seat as SCJ? Notice I didn’t say “based on the job this Hispanic woman has done, does the Republican Party think she’s worthy of the job?” (In my profession that’s just a way to increase the word count of the article.. hmm was that what the CNN writer was doing? )
Segregation was put to an end many years ago, let’s keep it that way. Just a year or so ago I was burned by an issue of racism. I’m white. I was the one being discriminated against. Some people tried to call it “reverse racism” but come on.. call it what it is. Racism, plain and simple.
Our borders were opened to people from other countries who wanted to improve their way of life, let them do it. In the process of making their own life better, they help improve the country they choose to live in. Where’s the bad in that?
