Ok my friend Chris has been waiting for me to blog, I know. The main reason is because her brother Opey wants to hear “the water story.” So here goes.. the water story:
A few weekends ago (or so) Patrick’s cousin Dana had a baby shower and cookout. We weren’t able to go to the baby shower, but we did go to the cookout at the pond. It’s a fairly large pond and there were 4 little girls under the age of 7 there. Naturally everyone’s helping keep an eye on all of the little girls
All of the adults were sitting in various areas talking. I was sitting at the picnic table with Patrick’s grandma right beside me and his aunt across from us at the other picnic table. I had a glass of water in my right hand. My right hand was crossed over my left and casually rested in my lap. I was talking to Patrick’s aunt and looked just past her and noticed 2 of the little girls at the other end of the pond! I asked their daddies if they should be that far away from everyone else. Both daddies jump up and start running toward their little girls to grab them and keep them from falling into the pond. It’s VERY deep at that end!
During all the commotion with the little girls, this big locust lands on my left index finger. Remember, my left hand is under my right hand… which is holding a glass of ice water. Remember who’s sitting to my left? *sigh* Yes, the bug landed on my finger.. and latched on. Scared the crap out of me! I’m not scared of bugs, they’d been all over us all day but my attention was focused on Brandon and Chris chasing their daughters around the pond trying to catch them, hoping one of them wouldn’t fall into the water.
So ok back to the bug and the “incident.” It landed and latched on.. and startled me so bad that I gasped, jumped and jerked my left hand with such force that it knocked the glass of ice water out of my hand and straight across Patrick’s grandmother’s lap!!! I think I may have even gotten his aunt’s pants leg, but I’m not sure. I immediately started grabbing paper towels and trying to dry her pants, I don’t think I’ve EVER been so embarrassed at a family get together! Of course she was fine with it all, she kept saying it was ok and that it would dry, that it was so hot out anyway… but WOW was I a mess there for a little while.
And to make matters worse, Patrick was sitting right in the line of sight. He saw everything and had to tell his dad and uncle Barry when they came to talk with him. So by now I’m sure everyone’s heard the story from someone but Opey hadn’t heard it all yet, so there you go
