My Fight with the Fire Alarm.

You know how most fire alarms will give you a warning beep if the battery is running low? Not mine!

To start things off, I couldn’t go to sleep very easily last night. Which sucked anyway. I hate sleeping alone. But I finally fell asleep sometime after 3am. Just after 6:30am, the smoke alarm started going off! Scared the crap out of me, I grab the nearest clothes I could find and run through the house expecting to smell smoke. Nothing. Not even a hint. After about 30 seconds of going off, the alarm just stops. So I’m thinking maybe because the heat turned on, it had a fast change in temperature… anything to set it off, ya know. Check on the kids, they’re still sound asleep. The smoke alarm is like 3ft from their bedroom doors! So I go lay back down, start to doze off…

You got it. It starts again. So I go to check on it again, decide it may be the battery, so I unhooked the battery and went back to bed. Hey, I was going to replace it later in the day when I was AWAKE enough to look for a battery! So I crawl back into bed, snuggle down into the covers, tuck them in all snug around me, start to doze off…

Yup. Again. Remember the part about me taking the battery out? So yeah. By this time I’m having to suppress some pretty icky words LOL! I go into the hallway, the thing is hanging by its electrical cords with the empty battery compartment open. And screaming. So I search the house over for a 9v battery, finally after about 20 minutes of searching, I find one. In the bathroom drawer where I keep makeup supplies…? Ok so yeah, that confused my under-caffeinated brain too.

I take the precious 9v battery and head toward the hallway to put it into the smoke alarm. Quite possibly the only 9v battery in the house by the way. So I’ll just be out of luck the next time this happens if I don’t remember to buy another battery soon So I grab my chair, step up onto it, battery in hand… smoke alarm goes off. *sigh* I think I was deaf for about 1/2 an hour. I decided that I was NOT going to immediately go back to bed this time! I was going to wait to see if that sucker went off again!

So I checked my school email and such, discovered that because I had withdrawn from one of the courses and gotten a D in another (see told ya I wasn’t learning the material well enough!!), that my financial aid for the summer semester was denied. Remember earlier I said I was already into 2 of the summer courses and waiting till June to start another..? So I called the college and surprisingly enough someone answered the phone at 7:40am. Not that I was awake enough to effectively communicate, but it was good enough to find out that I needed to file an appeal. So I found the pdf file, printed it, filled it out, faxed it to the college…

THEN, when I was pretty sure the alarm wasn’t going to go off every 20 minutes… I went back to bed.

9:00am the phone rang. I let the machine get it, whoever it was didn’t want to talk to my machine and hung up. I almost turned the ringer off, but wasn’t awake enough LOL! I dozed back off and when the phone rang again it was Patrick. I picked it up when I heard him on the machine and he says “what are you doing? I have been trying to message you on yahoo, so I thought I’d call, it’s almost 1 in the day.” To which I said “it is so not that late!” He finally convinced me that it really was and asked why I was sleeping in so late. So I’m sure he got a good kick out of the whole fire alarm story.

But it is now almost 11:30pm and I’m exhausted! Hopefully tonight will not be nearly as eventful as last night LOL!
